Welcome to My Byte Life
Starting Over
A while back I discovered that I needed to go way back and completely start my journey over. I did not have any foundational knowledge about how a personal computer works. This made it difficult for me to feel confident in my understanding of data transmission across networks.
I initially just wanted to learn how to manage a network. I never planned on working in tech but once my life began to take twists and turns, I knew I needed to take inventory of all my skills and use them to navigate my life’s rough road.
My thought was that I could jump right in to learning networking, get certified, and join the tech team at the church I attended. I had no idea just how difficult learning and staying disciplined truly is as an adult.
I also had no idea that the tech industry is male dominated and that there is only a sprinkle of women of color in the industry. As well as many with military backgrounds. I did not bother to research how many are single mothers. I felt like a fish out of water trying to find someone to respectfully advise me on this transition in my life. To be honest I still feel that way.
Mindset Is Powerful
I decided to share my story not only because representation matters but because I hit a milestone. It is not big and grandiose like most Youtuber’s will have you to believe. I’ve made it to the point in life where I’ve changed my mind about myself and my future. Mindset is powerful.
I’ve learned about the components inside the chassis (computer case) and how to assemble those components. I now know how to build a pc. When I realized that, the younger version of me, who has been cast aside and silent, rejoiced. The woman that I am declared, I can do this!
When I was younger, I wanted to learn how to build a computer and hack my friends. I did attend a technical school however we did not learn about building computers or hacking. I will elaborate more on that experience in a later post. After finishing that program, I went on to make a different dream come true and sought a career in the fashion industry.
Gotta Keep Going
As of right now, I am budgeting for my 1st pc build while fixing up the old devices I have laying around. I’m not sure if I’ll take the A+ exam but I do recommend for those interested to get the Mike Meyers book. It has been a great help to me and I’m sure it has been for hundreds of others.
I set a goal to learn computer networking because I want to be ready when an opportunity presents itself. I hope to encourage you with this blog to never give up on yourself despite hardships and to enjoy your life.
So that’s all for now and until I post again, have a good day!
